NCIS Expanding Globally with a New Spin-Off

NCIS: Sydney is the long-running franchise’s first foray into international waters.

“The NCIS franchise goes global with ‘NCIS: Sydney.'” The Australian production is now in the works and will air on Network 10 and Paramount+ in Australia.”

The upcoming series, ‘NCIS: Sydney,’ returns to naval cr1mes, bringing together U.S. NCIS agents and the Australian Federal Police to form a joint task force. They will collaborate to solve cr1mes in the waters off the coast of Sydney.

Olivia Swann, from DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, will play NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey. Todd Lasance will play Sergeant Jim “JD” Dempsey alongside her.

Supporting the lead duo are Sean Sagar as NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson, Tuuli Narkle as AFP Officer Constable Evie Cooper, Mavournee Hazel as AFP Forensic Scientist Bluebird ‘Blue’ Gleeson, and William McInnes as AFP Forensic Pathologist Dr. Roy Penrose.

The NCIS franchise, born in 2003 as a spin-off of JAG, now extends to Sydney, adding another international chapter to its 20-season legacy.

Each NCIS series revolves around agents within the U.S. Department of the Navy’s law enforcement sector, investigating cr1mes related to the Navy, Marine Corps, or service members’ families.

Rumored to include guest stars from the original series, NCIS: Sydney will showcase a fresh cast.

Previous spin-offs, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans, had successful runs, with NCIS: Hawai’i preparing for its third season after a hiatus due to the WGA writers’ strike resolution.

NCIS: Sydney is a watershed point in the franchise’s history, as it breaks away from its normally domestic focus. This change not only broadens the NCIS narrative, but it also demonstrates new potential and production capabilities.

Despite the shift to streaming, long-running procedural cr1me dramas like NCIS and Law & Order continue to thrive, thanks to passionate fan bases and compelling narrative.

While cr1me procedurals may not appeal to everyone, their enduring presence on television speaks to their universal appeal. NCIS: Sydney takes this familiar format to a new location with a tweaked premise, streaming on Paramount+.

As TV viewing habits evolve, the NCIS franchise adapts, holding onto its roots while embracing change. NCIS: Sydney provides a blend of the old and the new for TV enthusiasts.
