After 5 seasons apart, Ziva and Tony’s “will-they-won’t-they” relationship was finally resolved when they were reunited in season 17 of NCIS.
After being separated for over five seasons, Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) and Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) reunited in season 17 of NCIS. Since Ziva’s debut in season 3 of the show, the two, dubbed “Tiva” by fans, have been a will-they-won’t-they couple.
Unfortunately, it appears that their relationship will not be depicted directly on screen. Season 17 did, however, hint at the two’s future together; something fans have been waiting for a long time for the pair to finally become official, as their relationship has been one of the most beloved romances in NCIS.
Ziva David is an Israeli operative who joined the team as a liaison officer following Caitlin Todd’s d3ath at the end of NCIS season 2. Tony and Ziva’s romance, on the other hand, didn’t really begin until the eighth episode of the season, when they went undercover as a couple. This sparked their romantic relationship, though it was little more than playful banter and teasing.
Work became a major source of contention between the two as their relationship progressed. When NCIS disbanded in season 5 or Ziva left indefinitely in season 11, their work or personal responsibilities forced them to separate.
Several times in seasons 8 and 9, the various relationships they pursued extended the question of whether Tony and Ziva would ever get together. The most significant factor that separated them was when Ziva faked her d3ath and went into hiding at the end of Season 13.
Ziva was presumed d3ad in a mortar expl0sion orchestrated by Sahar Azam in the NCIS season 13 finale. Though it was later revealed that she was alive, Tony was unaware for a long time, and even after their good-bye kiss, they were not made an official couple. Season 17 did, however, provide insight into how the two reconnected and what they’re up to now.
Tony discovered the two had a daughter together after Ziva faked her d3ath in season 13, episode 23, “D3ath Letter,” and left the team to care for her. Tony appeared on screen for the final time in the series.
After being revealed to be alive and in hiding at the start of season 16, Ziva returned in NCIS season 17 to meet agent Gibbs, and Tony and Ziva were finally reunited, albeit off-screen, in episode 11, “Ephemera.”
Tony, who was living in Paris with their daughter, Tali, finally felt it was safe to reconnect with Ziva after the d3ath of Sahar Azam, the woman out to k1ll Ziva. The reunion was mentioned in a letter in which Tony and Ziva were living in Paris and raising Tali together. Both were eventually able to settle down and return to some semblance of normalcy in their lives.
Though they never appear on screen, Tony and Ziva are given the happy ending that so many have hoped for since their romance blossomed. It doesn’t appear that they will be seen together again on NCIS, as the actors have not been confirmed to reprise their roles, but fans can be assured that Tony and Ziva will be mentioned and discussed to remind them that the two are still together, alive and well.
