The NCIS universe continues to expand with NCIS: Tony and Ziva, delighting fans every Thursday on Paramount+ as Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo reprise their beloved roles as Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David. But as season 1 wrapped up on October 23 – and with no renewal yet for season 2 – fans are already wondering: could a familiar face from the original NCIS team make a surprise appearance?
Well, Michael Weatherly has one very special name in mind.
In a recent chat with TV Insider at New York Comic-Con, Michael revealed his dream guest star – none other than NCIS legend Mark Harmon, aka Leroy Jethro Gibbs. And not only does he want Gibbs to appear, he already has the perfect scene in mind.
“I’ll start with Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs,” Michael said in an Instagram clip posted on October 15. “I would love to just be walking down the street with Tali [played by Isla Gie] and this man coming the other way just gives Tony a head slap, completely out of nowhere. And then Tony just goes, ‘Thank you, boss,’ and keeps walking. And Tali goes, ‘Why did that man just hit you in the back of the head?’ And it’s like, ‘We used to work together.’”
Fans instantly went wild over the idea, flooding social media with excitement and heart emojis.
“LEROY JETHRO GIBBS!!!!! ❤️❤️,” one fan shouted in the comments. Another wrote, “Oh yesssss 🩷,” while others chimed in calling it “the crossover we need.”
The last time Tony and Gibbs shared the screen was all the way back in NCIS season 13 in 2016, when Tony said an emotional goodbye after learning of Ziva’s supposed death. Since then, the two haven’t reunited – at least not on camera.
Now, with Weatherly openly dreaming of that iconic “head slap” reunion, fans are holding onto hope that Gibbs could once again cross paths with his protégé.
After all, in the NCIS universe, no one ever truly says goodbye – especially not to the boss.
