Mark Harmon Returns as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in Special ‘NCIS: Origins’ Crossover Event

Mark Harmon is officially stepping back into the role of Leroy Jethro Gibbs – and fans couldn’t be more excited. The beloved NCIS star, who portrayed Gibbs for 18 seasons, will make his first on-screen appearance since 2024’s NCIS: Origins pilot during a special Veteran’s Day crossover event on November 11.

The night kicks off with NCIS: Origins at 8 p.m., followed by NCIS at 9 p.m. The two-part story connects past and present as a young Gibbs (played by Austin Stowell) and his 1990s team investigate the mysterious death of a naval officer – a case that resurfaces decades later.

“Four years ago, Gibbs disappeared to Alaska to live a life of solitude,” said co-showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal. “Fans have wondered what he’s been up to. Let’s just say… Gibbs is no longer alone.”

Harmon, who also narrates and executive produces NCIS: Origins, shared his excitement: “David and Gina are telling incredible stories and exploring these characters in new ways. They came to me with an idea for Gibbs that felt right – I think fans will enjoy where it leads.”

Now in its second season, NCIS: Origins follows the early days of Gibbs’ career under the leadership of Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) at Camp Pendleton. The series is produced by CBS Studios, with Mark and Sean Harmon among the executive producers.
