Just as the phrase “reports of my d3ath have been greatly exaggerated” is a misquote from Mark Twain, so are reports that Bridget Moynahan is leaving her role as Erin Reagan on CBS’ hit series Blue Bloods.
The rumors may have started when CBS aired a preview for tonight’s “The Big Leagues” episode, in which Erin’s investigator Anthony Abetemarco (Steve Schirripa) wants to celebrate Christmas in February as a way of saying goodbye.
His greatest fear is that once Erin officially declares her candidacy for District Attorney, their friendship will be over-at least on a daily basis.
“I don’t like goodbyes, so when one comes, I celebrate instead of crying,” Anthony tells his boss.
“Goodbye? “I’m not leaving,” Erin declares.
“Your campaign announcement is just around the corner, and when that happens, you are out of here,” he explains. “Well, I might be out of here, but I’ll never be out of your life,” she says, assuring him.
Is Erin Reagan departing from Blue Bloods?
To be honest, Moynahan has stated that she wants Blue Bloods to continue for a 15th season, which means there are two more to go.
“Bridget says making it to 15 seasons would be lovely,” TV Insider recently asked Tom Selleck, who plays Police Commissioner Frank Reagan. You in?”
“I’ve got a mortgage,” Selleck quickly agreed with his co-star. “I’m in!”
That being said, there is so much more to Erin’s story to be told. Will she be elected as District Attorney? How will she and Frank handle the situation if she is? Will Erin and her ex-husband, Jack Boyle (Peter Hermann), ever get back together? We definitely see the series continuing for another two years.
Is Tom Selleck departing from Blue Bloods?
Furthermore, Selleck stated to Parade in 2021, “I’d never say there’s a point where I wouldn’t say enough.” Mostly because it puts me in a bad bargaining position with CBS. Do I enjoy the show? Yes. Do I want to stay on the show? Yes. And, while I believe it would be insane to cancel the No. 3 scripted show on broadcast television, you never know in this world. I’m always on the lookout for what’s next. I can tell you this: I intend to continue working as an actor for as long as I am desired.
