Donnie Wahlberg Hints at Tom Selleck’s Possible Return in Boston Blue

Though Blue Bloods wrapped in 2024, its story lives on through CBS’s hit spinoff Boston Blue, starring Donnie Wahlberg. In a recent interview with Parade, Wahlberg opened up about Tom Selleck’s thoughts on the new series and the possibility of a reunion.

“Of course, I spoke to Tom the minute I was deciding if this was something I was going to do,” Wahlberg said. “He’s been very supportive.” While he didn’t confirm any cameo plans, Wahlberg expressed his hope for Selleck’s return. “Would I love for Tom to come up to Boston? Sure. Or Danny to go to New York and visit Frank? Absolutely.”

Wahlberg hinted that if the right story comes along, Selleck could reprise his iconic role as Commissioner Frank Reagan. “Tom’s always going to base his decisions on the material. When the time comes, hopefully we’ll craft something that moves his heart,” he said.

The actor also teased the return of other familiar faces. Bridget Moynahan has already appeared as Erin Reagan and even directed an episode. “We’re looking for opportunities to bring back other Reagans and characters when the time is right,” Wahlberg added.

Boston Blue premiered October 17 on CBS and Paramount+, following Danny Reagan as he joins the Boston Police Department after a case involving his son, Sean (Mika Amonsen). With its strong debut, the 20-episode first season is proving that fans aren’t ready to say goodbye to the Reagan family just yet.
