Donnie Wahlberg Gets Emotional as He Prepares to Say Goodbye to Blue Bloods: “Everyone Was Crying”

As CBS prepares to air part two of Blue Bloods’ final season, Donnie Wahlberg is saying goodbye to Detective Danny Reagan – and to a 14-year journey that changed his life.
Wahlberg shared that while the ending is bittersweet, gratitude outweighs sadness.
“I felt tremendous gratitude, not saditude – but everyone cried,” he said. “The last day was heartbreaking.”
After 14 years on the hit police drama, Wahlberg said the time flew by – yet also felt like a lifetime.
“In one sense, it went by in the blink of an eye. In another, it’s been 14 years of my life.”
Tom Selleck Shares Emotional Final Moments
Wahlberg wasn’t the only one struggling to hold back tears. Tom Selleck, who plays Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, showed up not just for his own final scenes but to support the entire cast.
“When he shows up to watch you work – just standing in the back with tears in his eyes – it’s impossible not to lose it,” Wahlberg recalled. “I could cry just thinking about it.”
Selleck Speaks Out on the End of the Series
Selleck admitted he’s still processing CBS’s decision to end the long-running fan favorite.
“I don’t believe in holding grudges,” he said. “But my frustration is that the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the start. It’s going to take time to sort it all out.”
A Bond Built on Respect
Over the years, Wahlberg and Selleck developed a deep respect for one another, both on and off screen.
“We have real conversations. We work,” Wahlberg said. “He respects what I bring to the table, and I respect him.”
As fans prepare for one final Sunday dinner with the Reagan family, Wahlberg and Selleck’s heartfelt goodbyes remind us why Blue Bloods became such a beloved part of TV history.
