Blue Bloods star Donnie Wahlberg is teasing the return of two fan-favorite elements in the upcoming spin-off Boston Blue: the romance between Danny Reagan and Maria Baez, and the iconic Reagan family dinners.
Premiering Friday, October 17 on CBS, Boston Blue follows Detective Danny Reagan (Wahlberg) as he starts fresh at the Boston Police Department. Danny’s son, Sean-now a patrol officer played by Mika Amonsen-also joins Boston PD, possibly explaining Danny’s move from New York.
Fans are thrilled that the Blue Bloods universe continues, but many hope it won’t mean the end of cameos from the Reagan family and friends-especially Detective Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez), who shared a romantic dinner with Danny in the Blue Bloods season 14 finale.
While there’s no official confirmation that Ramirez will appear in Boston Blue, her IMDb page shows no other projects, sparking speculation she may already be filming. Wahlberg hasn’t ruled out her return. When a fan asked if Danny ended up with Baez, he replied, “How about wait and see?” and later added, “Good idea!” when another viewer hoped the pair stayed together.
Even responding to skeptical fans, Wahlberg playfully wrote, “Wait, that’s what happens?”-fueling more curiosity about Baez’s future.
Another question among fans: Will the beloved Reagan Sunday dinners return? Though the new show is set in Boston, Wahlberg teased a possible continuation. When a fan said they’d miss the dinners, he replied, “Let’s see what happens.”
While the full Reagan table might not appear regularly, a smaller version could live on in Boston Blue. Wahlberg assured fans, “It’s a brand new chapter built on a strong foundation-with all the same heart and family at its core.”
Until Boston Blue premieres, fans will have to wait and see just how closely it connects to the world of Blue Bloods.
