It’s Official – ‘Boston Blue’ is Returning for Season 2!

CBS announced early renewals for both Boston Blue and Sheriff Country, with network president Amy Reisenbach praising the shows as “instant hits” driven by strong characters, compelling stories, and exceptional talent.

The early pickup for Boston Blue comes as no surprise. According to Nielsen data, the Blue Bloods spin-off averaged 8 million viewers across multiplatform 7-day ratings, with streaming up an impressive 87% from Blue Bloods last fall. The series has also consistently won its Friday 10 p.m. timeslot.

Star Donnie Wahlberg celebrated the news on Instagram, writing, “Brooklyn and Beantown ride again. So thankful to all of our cast, crew and viewers!” CBS also shared its excitement, posting, “It’s official: the dream team is here to stay!” alongside a photo of Wahlberg and co-star Sonequa Martin-Green.

Wahlberg recently reflected on the end of Blue Bloods and the chance to continue Danny Reagan’s legacy. “I fought tooth-and-nail to keep it on the air… When I started to look at this as a way to keep the character alive, how do I not do this?” he told CBS News.

Martin-Green expressed her enthusiasm as well, telling The Hollywood Reporter that she loves portraying a character who is “grounded, assured and confident,” and appreciates the joy the role brings.

Although the pilot was filmed in Boston, production moved to Toronto for the series. Wahlberg explained to THR that shooting in his hometown was enjoyable but overwhelming due to constant fan attention, making long-term filming there unrealistic.

CBS has not yet announced a premiere date for Season 2, but excitement among fans is already building.
