When Boston Blue debuted on CBS last week, longtime Blue Bloods fans were quick to notice a major change – the role of Sean Reagan has a brand-new face.
Actor Mika Amonsen has officially stepped into the shoes of the youngest Reagan, a character originally portrayed by Andrew Terraciano across an incredible 292 episodes of the hit series. The surprising recast raised eyebrows, but the show’s co-showrunner Brandon Margolis says there’s a meaningful reason behind the switch.
“We love Andrew and the work he did over the years on Blue Bloods,” Margolis told Variety. “But this new chapter called for a fresh perspective. Sean’s journey – and Danny’s, as a father to a cop for the first time – opens up new storytelling lanes.”
According to Margolis, the decision wasn’t about replacing Andrew, but about evolving the story.
“It felt like an organic opportunity to bring in a new performance with a new energy, to help dramatize that change,” he explained. “It’s the same character and relationship, but it’s also completely different. Mika brings this perfect mix of vulnerability and determination – you can feel his drive to prove himself.”
While the change might take fans a moment to get used to, Margolis promises that Amonsen’s take on Sean will deepen the emotional heart of the Reagan family story – and bring a fresh spark to Boston Blue’s next chapter.
