‘Boston Blue’ Reunion? Donnie Wahlberg Drops Major Hint About ‘Blue Bloods’ Favorites Returning

The Reagan family isn’t going anywhere-they’re just moving north. CBS has confirmed a Blue Bloods spin-off, Boston Blue, debuting in the 2025–26 season. The new series follows Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan as he takes on a new role with the Boston Police Department, teaming up with Detective Lena Peters-the eldest child of another prominent law enforcement family. (Casting for Peters is still under wraps.)
Wahlberg recently teased on the Morning Magic podcast that the show will stay true to its roots:
“It will be a Danny Reagan-based show, but the Reagans are only a phone call away-and Danny Reagan likes to use the phone,” he said, hinting at possible guest appearances.
The actor is also stepping behind the camera, producing alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and writers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier (The Blacklist, S.W.A.T., Alert: Missing Persons Unit).
Interestingly, Boston Blue evolved from a different project called Jamaica Plain, which originally centered on a Boston family paired with an LAPD transfer. When CBS decided to expand the Blue Bloods universe, Wahlberg’s Boston roots made him the natural choice-even if he wasn’t convinced at first.
“Do you wanna do it in Boston?” Wahlberg recalled CBS asking. “I was like, ‘Oh my god!’ I’m a proud Bostonian. I love the city. I love coming back every chance I get-and I will love filming there.”
With Wahlberg’s passion and the Blue Bloods legacy behind it, Boston Blue is shaping up to be a must-watch for fans.
