Boston Blue Wastes a Golden Opportunity to Bring Back Blue Bloods Legends

One of the most exciting prospects for Boston Blue is seeing familiar Blue Bloods characters return, but the spinoff has already missed its best opportunity. The new CBS cop show follows Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan as he begins a new chapter-investigating cr1mes in Boston instead of New York.
Following the Blue Bloods series finale in December 2024, CBS developed Boston Blue to continue the franchise. While fans won’t be completely without the Reagans, many original characters will be absent.
Danny Is Already Settled in Boston
Contrary to expectations, the pilot doesn’t cover Danny’s move from New York. Instead, he’s already settled in Boston and teams up with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green) to investigate a deadly fire at a tech company. Their investigation uncovers secrets involving facial recognition, family ties, and justice, bringing the Reagan and Silver families closer.
The pilot also introduces other series regulars: Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters, Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver, and Mika Amonsen as Sean Reagan (replacing Andrew Terraciano).
No Farewells to the Reagans
Because Danny is already in Boston, the pilot won’t show him saying goodbye to his New York family. This was a prime chance for cameos from Tom Selleck, Will Estes, Len Cariou, or Marisa Ramirez-but it won’t happen in episode one. Sean, Danny’s son, will join him in Boston, maintaining some continuity despite a new actor taking the role.
Reagans Still Needed
Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) will appear in the premiere, but she can’t be the only Reagan cameo. Since the show still revolves around family-this time the Silvers-Danny’s New York family should logically appear at some point. Boston isn’t far from New York, so crossovers are possible. Fans will have to wait and see which Reagans eventually show up in Boston Blue.
