Get Ready for ‘Boston Blue’: Cast Reveals and Exciting Details About the ‘Blue Bloods’ Spinoff

CBS’ highly anticipated Blue Bloods spinoff Boston Blue is officially on the way – here’s what we know so far.

Blue Bloods debuted in 2010 and followed the Reagan family, many of whom worked in the NYPD. In 2023, cast and producers took a 25% pay cut to keep the show alive, sparking speculation about its future. Donnie Wahlberg, who played Danny Reagan, said he hoped the show would enjoy the longevity of Law & Order: SVU and was open to spinoff ideas – joking about one set in Hawaii.

Wahlberg’s wish came true when Boston Blue was announced following Blue Bloods’ December 2024 conclusion. CBS confirmed in February 2025 that Boston Blue was ordered straight to series for the 2025–2026 season.

What Is Boston Blue About?

The show follows Danny Reagan (Wahlberg) as he joins the Boston P.D. and teams up with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a respected law enforcement family.

Executive producers include Brandon Sonnier, Brandon Margolis, Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Wahlberg.

Who’s in the Cast?

  • Donnie Wahlberg returns as Danny Reagan.
  • Sonequa Martin-Green joins as Lena Peters.
  • Ernie Hudson will play her grandfather, Reverend Peters, a renowned Boston pastor.
  • Maggie Lawson stars as Boston PD Superintendent Sarah Silver.

Will Other Blue Bloods Characters Appear?

So far, Wahlberg is the only confirmed returning cast member. However, many former stars – including Tom Selleck and Vanessa Ray – have expressed interest in joining the spinoff.

“Excited to carry on the tradition… and answer some unanswered questions,” Wahlberg wrote on Instagram in March 2025.

How Did Blue Bloods End?

The final episode left the Reagan family in good spirits: Frank (Selleck) stayed on as commissioner, Erin (Bridget Moynahan) remarried Jack (Peter Hermann), and Eddie (Vanessa Ray) revealed she was expecting her first child with Jamie (Will Estes).
