‘Blue Bloods’ Spin-Off ‘Boston Blue’ Shakes Things Up – Major Cast Member Replaced After 14 Seasons!

CBS has officially greenlit Boston Blue, a Blue Bloods spin-off centered on Donnie Wahlberg’s beloved character, Detective Danny Reagan, and his son, Sean. But fans may be surprised – Andrew Terraciano, who played Sean for all 14 seasons, won’t be returning.

Instead, Suits and Reacher actor Mika Amonsen will take over the role, People confirms. No reason for the recast has been shared, and Terraciano has remained silent on the change.

When Blue Bloods wrapped in 2024, Terraciano posted a heartfelt farewell:

“After 15 years, ‘family’ isn’t a big enough word for everyone at Blue Bloods. I’ll never forget what I learned on that set in Brooklyn – ‘Run fast, laugh hard, be kind.’ … Sean Reagan, I let you go.”

The original series, which ran from 2010 to 2024, followed New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) and his law-enforcement family. Its cancellation sparked outrage from both fans and cast – but now, the Reagan legacy continues.

Set in Massachusetts, Boston Blue follows Danny as he joins the Boston Police Department while Sean starts his own career as a patrolman, hoping to honor his family’s legacy on his own terms. According to CBS, the move allows father and son to “reconnect on a deeper level.”

The series, from writers Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, stars Wahlberg, Amonsen, Sonequa Martin-Green, Gloria Reuben, Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, and Ernie Hudson. Whether Tom Selleck will return as Frank Reagan remains to be seen.
