Nathaniel “Nate” Pelletier, known for his work on the Hallmark series When Calls the Heart, has died unexpectedly at the age of 53. According to his obituary, he passed away “suddenly at home” in Langley, British Columbia, on April 11. A cause of death was not disclosed.
Pelletier played a recurring role as a taxi driver on the series and also worked behind the scenes in the transportation department.
Co-star Martin Cummins (Henry Gowen) paid tribute in a heartfelt Instagram post, reflecting on their close bond. “The Valley will not be the same without Nathaniel Pelletier,” Cummins wrote. “He was a gentle soul and it was my honor to call him friend.”
The official When Calls the Heart Instagram also honored him, describing Pelletier as a beloved part of the show and a fan favorite during Hearties Family Reunions. “He brought so much joy to the day… He will be missed greatly.”
Pelletier is survived by his daughter, brothers, and parents.
His passing comes nearly a year after another When Calls the Heart tragedy. Actress Mamie Laverock, 20, who played Rosaleen Sullivan, nearly died after falling five stories from a hospital balcony in May 2024. After multiple surgeries and time on life support, Laverock made a miraculous recovery and was released from the hospital in August.
