Devin Harjes, known for his roles in Boardwalk Empire, Daredevil, and Gotham, has died at age 41. He passed away on May 27 at Mount Sinai West hospital in New York City after being diagnosed with cancer in February, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Born in Lubbock, Texas, Harjes grew up riding horses and later pursued acting in college. He began his career on the off-Broadway stage and in independent films before making his TV debut in 2011 as Jack Dempsey in Boardwalk Empire.

He went on to appear in Gotham as Clyde, a bank guard, and in Daredevil as Oscar, a nurse at Rikers Island. Harjes also had guest roles in Blue Bloods, Orange Is the New Black, Elementary, and FBI. His film credits include Surprise Surprise, Mr. Conovy, Rebel in the Reye, Boyz of Summer, and The Forest Is Red.

Harjes earned acting accolades for his performances, including Best Actor at Italy’s Tolentino International Film Festival (The Forest Is Red) and an Honorable Mention at the Long Island International Film Expo (Boyz of Summer). Most recently, he played Pete Baylor in NBC’s Manifest.

Director Antonio DiFonzo, who worked with Harjes on Boyz of Summer, paid tribute on Facebook: “He was constantly striving to be better and put his heart and soul into everything he did. Rest in peace, Lion Heart.”

Outside of acting, Harjes was dedicated to martial arts and fitness, once joking that the gym was “safer than getting kicked in the face by a horse.”

He is survived by his parents, Randy and Rosanne Harjes, sister Trish, two nieces, former wife Shiva Shobitha, and other relatives. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to TKC Blessings, which supports arts scholarships for children.
