Chuck Norris, the legendary martial artist and action film star whose larger-than-life toughness became the subject of global pop culture, has died at the age of 86.

His family confirmed his passing in a statement shared on March 20, saying he died peacefully the previous morning surrounded by loved ones. No cause of death was disclosed.

“To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,” the family said, remembering his faith, discipline, and lasting impact on millions of fans.

Born Carlos Ray Norris on March 10, 1940, in Ryan, Oklahoma, he rose from humble beginnings to become a world champion martial artist. He later transitioned into acting after encouragement from Steve McQueen.

Norris gained early recognition after appearing alongside Bruce Lee in the 1972 film The Way of the Dragon, featuring one of cinema’s most iconic fight scenes. He went on to star in a string of successful action films in the 1980s, including Missing in Action, Invasion U.S.A., Code of Silence, and The Delta Force.

In the 1990s, he became a household name on television as Cordell Walker in Walker, Texas Ranger, a role that defined his career for a new generation.

Later in life, Norris experienced a resurgence in popularity through the viral “Chuck Norris Facts,” which humorously portrayed him as an unstoppable, mythical figure.

Outside of entertainment, he was also known for his outspoken conservative views and public advocacy work.

Norris celebrated his 86th birthday just days before his death, sharing a video in which he joked, “I don’t age – I level up.”

He is survived by his wife, Gena O’Kelley, and his five children.

Chuck Norris leaves behind a legacy as both an action star and a cultural icon whose influence spanned decades.
