Neil Sedaka Lived A Double Life For 30 Years, and No One Knew – Until Now

Neil Sedaka, one of pop music’s most enduring hitmakers, passed away on February 27, 2026 in Los Angeles at age 86, leaving behind a remarkable career spanning more than five decades.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Sedaka grew up in a working-class family where his mother encouraged his musical talent. Early piano lessons and a scholarship to Juilliard School shaped his discipline and songwriting skills.

During the late 1950s and early 1960s, Sedaka rose to fame with memorable hits including Oh! Carol and Breaking Up Is Hard to Do, becoming a major pop star.

Although changing musical trends slowed his success in the late 1960s, Sedaka adapted by writing songs, performing internationally, and eventually returning to the charts in the 1970s with the hit Laughter in the Rain.

Even in later years, Sedaka continued performing and protecting his musical catalog. His legacy lives on through timeless melodies that remain recognizable after only a few piano chords.
