Why Daniela Ruah is Ready to Close the NCIS: Los Angeles Chapter

NCIS: Los Angeles officially ended with its season 14 finale on May 21, 2023, closing the chapter on the franchise’s first spinoff after 14 years. The series, led by LL Cool J and Chris O’Donnell, followed the Office of Special Projects, an elite undercover NCIS unit based in Los Angeles. Despite its long run and strong fan base, CBS canceled the show in 2023.

Following the finale, questions arose about whether other NCIS: Los Angeles stars might follow LL Cool J to NCIS: Hawai‘i. Daniela Ruah, who portrayed Special Agent Kensi Blye throughout the show’s entire run, has indicated she does not currently plan to join another NCIS series.

In a 2022 interview, Ruah reflected on what made playing Kensi so meaningful. She described the character as deeply flawed but constantly evolving-intelligent, fiercely independent, and shaped by personal trauma. Ruah noted that over time, Kensi learned it was okay to rely on others emotionally, a growth arc that resonated strongly with fans.

While LL Cool J continues his NCIS journey elsewhere, Ruah appears content closing Kensi Blye’s story with NCIS: Los Angeles, marking a definitive end to that era of the franchise.
