Tom Selleck says he’s uncertain whether he’ll ever appear in Boston Blue, despite earlier openness to the idea.
“I don’t know if I would do Boston Blue,” Selleck, 80, recently said, explaining that while he feels a responsibility to protect Blue Bloods’ legacy, he doesn’t see himself continuing as Frank Reagan. Selleck played the NYPD commissioner from 2010 until the series ended in 2024, a cancellation he publicly questioned, noting the show’s strong ratings.
Although he hasn’t taken on a new acting role since Blue Bloods, Selleck says he’s ready for what’s next. Westerns remain high on his wish list, and he’s also interested in returning to comedy-pointing to Friends as the kind of heartfelt humor he enjoys.
Last year, Selleck said he would consider Boston Blue if asked. Star Donnie Wahlberg has voiced support for a possible crossover, though nothing has been discussed formally.
Meanwhile, Selleck’s popularity hasn’t faded. His 1984 film Runaway recently surged to No. 1 on iTunes, and there’s ongoing talk-though no confirmation-of another Jesse Stone installment.
Sources say Selleck is enjoying a slower pace after years of nonstop work, but those close to him also insist he’s happiest when acting. One thing is clear: while he’s taking a breather, Selleck isn’t done with the screen just yet.
