Richard Gere’s Health Update: What Happened and How the Actor Is Recovering

Pretty Woman star Richard Gere is on the mend after being hospitalized with pneumonia while vacationing in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico, on February 19. Gere, who was celebrating wife Alejandra Silva’s 40th birthday, arrived on the trip already battling a lingering cough that worsened once they arrived.

He checked himself into a local hospital, where doctors diagnosed pneumonia and kept him overnight for antibiotic treatment. He was released the next day and continued recovering with his family.

The health scare came shortly after Alejandra shared that their household had been sick for several weeks. The couple, married since 2018, share two young sons. Gere is also father to his eldest son, Homer, from his previous marriage to Carey Lowell, while Alejandra has a son, Albert, from a prior marriage.

“After almost three weeks of everyone being sick in our family, today I finally feel much better!” Alejandra wrote in a February 16 Instagram post.

On February 19, she updated fans again, reassuring them that Richard was improving. “He is recovering – feeling much better today! The worst has already passed,” she wrote alongside a photo of Gere wearing a face mask while out on a walk with their child.

She later shared a supportive message from actor Ray Negron, a longtime friend of Gere’s, who wished him a speedy recovery and sent his love to the family.
