Boston Blue: Fan-Favorite Blue Bloods Character Returns, Says Donnie Wahlberg

Donnie Wahlberg is no longer the only Blue Bloods star set to appear on Boston Blue. The actor recently shared a behind-the-scenes Instagram photo confirming that his former co-star Bridget Moynahan will reprise her role as Erin Reagan, Danny’s sister, in the spinoff’s premiere.

“Reunited and it feels so good! So excited to have my dear friend, and TV sister [Bridget Moynahan], join me for a special guest appearance in the premiere episode of #BostonBlue!” Wahlberg wrote, noting that Moynahan will also bring her directing talents to the series.

Moynahan, who appeared in all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods as New York County Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan, is the second alum confirmed for Boston Blue, after Wahlberg. Danny’s youngest son, Sean Reagan, will also appear but has been recast with Mika Amonsen, as the show is taking a “new creative direction” with the character. In the spinoff, Danny follows Sean to Boston, where he begins his law enforcement career.

Announced in February 2025, Boston Blue focuses on the Silvers, a multi-generational family with ties to law enforcement, led by patriarch Reverend Peters (Ernie Hudson). Wahlberg’s Danny partners with Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), a rising star in the Boston Police Department. Other main cast members include Maggie Lawson as Lena’s stepsister Sarah, Marcus Scribner as her younger brother Jonah, and Gloria Reuben as their mother, Mae.

Anthony Hemingway is directing the premiere, and production is underway following the cast’s first table read. Initially not intended as a Blue Bloods spin-off, the series was reworked into the franchise after CBS approved the script.
