Actor Sam Elliott, at 80, Reveals Who He Doesn’t Want at His Funeral

At 80, legendary actor Sam Elliott has drawn attention by revealing a list of Hollywood figures he doesn’t want at his funeral. Known for his western roles and gravelly voice, Elliott says the decision comes from clashing values, not personal feuds, staying true to his lifelong commitment to authenticity.

Elliott named Benedict Cumberbatch, criticizing his role in The Power of the Dog for misrepresenting masculinity and the western genre. Director Jane Campion was also excluded, as Elliott felt her vision conflicted with the values he spent his career honoring.

He also pointed to Nicolas Cage and Jared Leto, whose eccentric personas and acting styles he finds at odds with his belief in subtle, grounded storytelling. “It should be about substance, not spectacle,” Elliott said.

Ashton Kutcher was another surprising name on the list. Elliott joked about not wanting “Dude, Where’s My Car?” energy at his memorial. Even Jeff Bridges, his Big Lebowski co-star, was mentioned due to growing philosophical differences over the years.

Elliott emphasized his choices weren’t meant to insult, but to protect the spirit of his legacy. “When I go, I want it to be about the truth-no glitz, just good stories, a shot of bourbon, and ‘Home on the Range.’”
